Vintage Townhouse
Louise Johnston Design was hired to design the open plan living space of this vintage townhouse. The newlywed couple had a good sense of their style and already had several accessories and pieces of furniture, but felt stuck when they tried to put it all together themselves. The design brief was simple - the couple wanted a home that they loved coming home to each day, reflected their personalities, and served their love for entertaining friends and family. The first step was to catalog the furniture and accessories they wanted to keep and then identify places to add some more personality and additional seating for guests. A navy tufted velvet sofa and industrial spider light fixture would become the focal points of the sitting room. We layered in a gallery wall above the sofa and a rustic wood coffee table and media cabinet helped to tie the chunky original stair detail into the design. Reclaimed timber shelves were installed in a recessed area in the wall, providing the perfect space to display the couple’s wedding photo, vintage record player, and books. A bold navy paint color and textured wallpaper completely transformed the feel of the space.
