Modern Penthouse

Louise Johnston Design was hired to add personality, warmth and to improve functionality of this 2 bedroom, 39th floor penthouse. Building architect Helmut Jahn is know for his minimal, “less is more” approach, leaving concrete columns and ceilings exposed. The first step to brighten and warm the apartment involved adding a coat of plaster to the ceiling. A bespoke walnut feature-wall was then designed for the open-plan living space bringing warmth to the room, providing much needed storage, and disguising and access panel for the air conditioning unit. Functionality was greatly improved when a secondary door to the master bathroom was closed off, making space for a large walk-in-wardrobe off the bedroom and a new work space adjacent to the kitchen. The guest bathroom was given a complete overhaul with a new custom floating vanity and Cararra marble tile and counter.
